I’m off this afternoon on my way up to Edinburgh where I will be running the marathon on Sunday. My wife thinks that running 26.2 miles is a fairly pointless activity that may actually do you more harm than good. I understand that viewpoint to an extent but believe that the marathon experience is an affirming one. For me the marathon is not just about the 26.2 miles on race day, it encompasses the 5 months of training on frosty mornings and dark wet nights, the finish line recalls all of that. The experience will be shared with family and friends who are also running, a big meal and quite a few drinks are planned for Sunday night. I’ll post how I do next week.
