About the supplier

Coaltown's ethos is to create delicious coffee and do good along with it.

In 2019, Coaltown became one of the first b-Corp certified coffee companies in the UK, which means they are morally and legally committed to prioritising responsibility to the environment and society, from the experts who produce their coffee at the roastery to the baristas who brew it.

Coaltown prefer to deconstruct traditional supply chains and develop direct trade value chains. They are able to forge strong relationships with producers across the globe. This helps develop transparency to ensure that every party involved can provide value and share equity.

Coaltown coffee is roasted daily in their roastery based in the Welsh town of Ammanford, using a Probat GG75 Roaster and a 12kg Probat Roaster.

Roasting coffee requires a careful and methodical approach; monitoring time, temperature, smell and colour change. They aim to develop the natural make-up of each coffee to help create the best possible cup.

Coaltown use compostable coffee bags made by Biotre and exclusively use compostable coffee cups in all sites, made by a fellow B corp: Decent packaging. All waste coffee chaff & grounds get donated to local gardening groups for composting. The Roastery is run on 100% renewable energy working with opus energy – the first UK energy supplier pledging to be carbon negative in the next 10 years.
