The Stillness of The Grasshopper

…..the grasshoppers took their time before jumping, like gentle china figures…..

These wonderfully sculpted figures are made by Laboratoria D'Estorias using preserving the traditional techniques and crafts in the pottery-making town of Caldas de Rainha in Portugal. The body is a rich slick glazed ceramic and the feet are cast bronze.

Each piece they make is drawn from a story - be that a modern allegory, traditional tale, myth or poem. Here, the grasshopper waits, patiently and still.
